Show Jumping World Cup event opens near Minsk

A Show Jumping World Cup event opened at the Ratamka equestrian sport center near Minsk on July 28.

The tournament features more than 100 horses and riders from seven countries.

Speaking to reporters, Andrey Baranowski, director of the Minsk Regional Equestrian Sport Center, said that Belarus had managed to buy horses for the country's show jumping team thanks to aid from Russian sponsors. "Unfortunately, there are very few horses of such a level in our country, they cost very much," he said.

"Since we are far behind leading European nations in the development of the equestrian sport, the level of the members of our national show jumping team corresponds to the level of the fourth-best lineup of the German team," he noted.

Viktar Mikhadzyuk, director of the National Equestrian Sport Center, said that Ratamka managed to accommodate some 140 horses for the tournament.
