A number of representatives of British travel agencies visited Belarus on 13-17 March on a fact-finding tour. The companies included Cox & Kings, KE Adventure, Explore, Distinctive World Travel, Tucan Travel, Wild Frontiers, AITO, Intrepid Travel, and BSI Global Group.
It was the first time the fact-finding tour had been organized. Representatives of the British travel agencies were invited to go on a sightseeing tour of Minsk and the sport infrastructure in anticipation of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. They visited the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater. They went to Nesvizh and Mir and appreciated industrial tourism opportunities by visiting the Belarusian automobile engineering company BelAZ. The Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) presented the forthcoming sport forum in Minsk. Representatives of the British travel agencies said that Belarus would also be able to occupy its niche on the tourism market and might focus on entertaining aspects instead of simple sightseeing. For instance, they baked bread at a farm stay, a dancing master class was arranged, they were taught how to drive a haul truck at BelAZ. These are the things that should be highlighted in a bid to attract British tourists, Yelena Likhimovich said. One of the British travel agencies signed an agreement with the Belarusian travel agency Tsentrkurort and will help promote the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. According to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, in 2018 Belarus attracted nearly 2,300 organized tourists and holidaymakers, 14.8% up from 2017.
